“As a former dental phobic, I know that going to the dentist can be a bit nerve racking and so I aim to provide gentle patient paced care.”
Hi I’m Emma and I graduated from the University of Otago in 2008 and I’m interested in all aspects of dentistry.
In my spare time I love watching old movie musicals and cooking for friends and family.
“I know that each patient is unique, and my approach to dentistry is personalised to meet my patients’ own needs.”
I’m Lizzie and I was born in Malaysia. I came to New Zealand to complete my dental degree at the University of Otago and have been living in Christchurch ever since I graduated.
Having been raised in a Christian family, my aspiration is to deliver dental care that aligns with Christian values. I’m deeply committed to providing patient-centred care, and passionate about patient education.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends, snowboarding, tramping and embracing all that the beautiful outdoors of Aotearoa has to offer.
“I aim to help patients achieve a healthy oral environment through education, prevention and patient centric treatment.”
Graduating from AUT in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Oral Health Science, I’ve been a practicing Oral Health Therapist in Christchurch since then.
Originally from the States, I love living in Canterbury with all of the nature it has to offer.
After work I enjoy walks with my dog Chuppy, and going on adventures with my husband and young daughter.
Healthy, happy smiles.
Emma is amazing!! It's been a while in between my appointments and Emma made it feel like it's only been a couple of months! Emma was great at explaining the procedures in great detail and always a step ahead with the $ questions. Great service and overall communication and friendliness. Thanks Team Dental
Aww Emma is so awesome, very professional and so gentle, she is now my fav dentist and you are my fav Assistant, Jackie, thank you for great service
Very professional. Fast and efficient. But took the time to explain everything. Made a Root Canal far more pleasant than was expecting. Thanks
I have been seeing Emma Ward for an extraction of a wisdom tooth and fillings and I have to say that she is a very awesome and kind dentist. Of course, the dental practice is not my favourite place to go, but Emma really makes you feel comfortable and explains everything so everyone can understand, Emma has a lot of patience und always comes up with different options. The receptionist and Emma's little helpers are very friendly, kind and understanding as well, I do feel good visiting this practice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Local anaesthetic provides a total pain block in most cases. For anxious patients or difficult surgery we provide intravenous sedation. A consultation appointment is essential if you are thinking about intravenous sedation. Note: This is not a general anaesthetic.
Ring the surgery as soon as you can and let us know what happened. We will see you asap to assess and document the trauma to the mouth and look at ACC options. Even if there doesn’t appear to be any damage, problems can arise later. In children, registration of accident injury is very important as it may involve damage to a permanent tooth that has not come through yet. A traumatic injury to the teeth can have an unpredictable outcome, so it’s always a good idea to have the accident checked and documented.
Not always, but a wisdom tooth is your third molar tooth and often there is not enough room in your mouth for them so they become impacted (jammed against another tooth or bone, and can become infected), so they often have to be removed for comfort. There are a number of reasons why wisdom teeth may cause problems and if they’re causing pain and infection, we recommend their extraction.
We require payment on the day of treatment. EFTPOS and credit card facilities are available.
Yes we do. Under the Government Special Dental Benefits scheme, we provide emergency temporary treatment of children and adolescents up to them turning 18. If the appointment is the result of an accident or trauma, we provide temporary and ongoing treatment to all age groups through ACC.
A tooth should be crowned when it’s compromised and or damaged to the extent it’s in danger of breaking. A crown strengthens and protects the tooth that remains. Some people have crowns placed over their teeth for cosmetic reasons.
We can issue WINZ quotes and in the case of accident or trauma partial ACC assistance is sometimes available.
There are three options; partial denture, bridge or an implant and an implant will require a referral to an oral surgeon.
Dentures provide a cost effective, practical and cosmetic solution for those with problem teeth. If you do need to have full upper and/or lower dentures the initial cost of the dentures will vary, and the dentures will need to be adjusted as the gums shrink over time. Most dentist are very hesitant to pull out good or patent teeth and partial dentures are available that allow you to keep your good teeth for as long as possible.
In all cases an infection in the mouth must be addressed as untreated dental infections can be very serious. In some cases a tooth infection can be remedied with a course of antibiotics. Drugs will deal with the infection, but the underlying problem remains, so, don’t forget to return to your dentist to find a permanent solution to the problem.
It’s difficult to provide a quote over the phone, but we can give you a price range for the various treatments. Your dentist will tell you how much the treatment is likely to cost before they start. We advise you to visit the practice for an appointment to discuss different options with you.
Yes we do at our 16th Ave practice in Tauranga.
No, but we can assess your condition and then refer you to a local orthodontist.
Yes, we have the facilities to make you a whitening tray and provide the necessary whitening solution, this process takes up to a week, or, we have ready-to-go whitening treatments available.
Zip is a popular buy-now-pay-later service that offers you the flexibility to pay for your dental treatment, all while enjoying interest-free payments. With a credit limit of up to $1000 and a user-friendly application process, Zip Payments has become a game-changer.
