A person’s smile can be one of the things we notice most about a person when we first meet them. Missing teeth can negatively affect your appearance and impact your day-to-day living.
The most common way to replace a missing tooth (or teeth) is with dentures.
Made of plastic, metal, or a flexible plastic material called valplast, dentures can be made to suit your needs and lifestyle.
Dentures can be used to replace only a few teeth, these are called partial dentures.
These dentures not only help your smile look better, but they also help to keep your existing teeth in place. Flexible Valplast material is often used for partial dentures, easily attaching to the teeth on either side of the gum to fill in a missing tooth.
If you need more teeth replaced, such as all your top or bottom teeth, you’ll probably need full dentures. Instead of just filling one or two teeth, full dentures fill the entire row.
Lower dentures can be problematic so we recommend you look after your lower teeth for as long as you can!
Dentures can look incredibly similar to your natural teeth, so much so that some people won’t notice you’re wearing them. They can significantly improve your facial appearance.
It’s normal for dentures to feel a bit odd in your mouth at first. Some people find it takes a couple of weeks for speaking and eating to feel natural again. But after some time, dentures should feel natural in your mouth. If you notice your dentures clicking while you talk, book an appointment with us to get them refitted.
If dentures don’t sound like you, there are other ways to replace your missing teeth.
Bridging the gap with crowns or dental Implants are likely to cost more than dentures, but some people find them more natural feeling than dentures. Dental implants can also be used to support dentures and make them more stable in your mouth.
We recommend booking an appointment with our Team Dental dentists and we can discuss what will suit you best.

- How often should I get a check-up?
- Dental Checkup
- Dental Hygiene Examination
To look after your teeth and keep your smile at its best, we recommend a dental check-up at least once a year. It’s also a good idea to have a dental hygiene examination with our hygienist at the same time.
As well as keeping your teeth healthy, a regular check-up can help save you money in the long run by catching problems early on.
A dental check-up with us includes a thorough check of all of your teeth, your gums and an x-ray to see if there are any problems.
During your check-up, we’ll ask you about any previous dental work and check-in on how your dental health is going since your last check-up. X-rays will help us examine parts of your teeth that we can’t see by eye. Have a read of our Dental X-Rays page to know more.
After your check-up is done, we’ll tell you if any work is needed to keep your smile healthy. Your dentist will explain what needs to be done and how much it will cost. This means you won’t have any surprises.
After your check-up, we recommend you see one of our specialised hygienists. A dental hygiene examination is good in many ways. Our hygienist will check and record your gum health, plus they scale and clean your teeth thoroughly. They will teach you how to clean and maintain your teeth well after the dental hygienist examination.
An hygienist appointment normally takes 45 minutes.
If you think you might be overdue for a dental check-up, get in touch with Team Dental to book an appointment with our dentists and hygienists.
If you think you might be due for a check-up talk to Team Dental today, we make it easy.
