What is laser dentistry?
Laser dentistry is a technologically advanced dental tool that can treat a number of dental problems in a gentle and minimally invasive way. Laser Dental uses a combination of laser energy and a spray of water to perform quick and precise dental procedures all while causing minimal pain and discomfort for you.
Laser dentistry is available in our Whangarei branch at Team Dental.
How can we help?
At Team Dental Whangarei, we use the Biolase Water Laser. The Biolase Water Laser is a medical strength laser with applications in most areas of dentistry.
We often use Laser to do small fillings and treat specific gum conditions. The Laser uses light energy and cold air and water to cut the targeted tissues while causing minimal damage to the surrounding areas. Our teeth are partly made of water, so when the laser touches the teeth, those water particles get excited which helps the laser cut through the tooth. The process occurs without heat, vibrations, or the pressure of standard dental tools.
Not only is the Laser more precise, but it also causes a lot less discomfort than a traditional drill. A lot of patients find less need for anesthetic when using the Laser. Overall the Laser is less traumatic than a drill or scalpel and often results in faster recovery times when it is used in your dental treatment. Although the Laser is sounding pretty ideal so far, unfortunately, the laser isn’t able to replace the drill entirely, and we still need to use the drill for some specific aspects of your treatment.
Although using laser dentistry is significantly more gentle and pain-free than traditional dentist drills and scalpels, some people still feel the need to use a local anaesthetic. The use of local anesthetic tends to be especially common when using the Laser sensitive areas. However, regardless of the tool and treatment, at Team Dental we will do everything we can to ensure you remain comfortable and as pain-free as possible.
